Grow

Do any others mothers out there agree that kids grow way too fast?

Riley amazes me daily with his newest kid "skills" (that's what he calls them :)

This instance it's with markers and coloring.

He goes a little something like this.
"Mom, lets color"
"I need 1 + you need 1 + 1 for Norah and 1 for Aubrey, so that equals 4 + when daddy gets home he will need 1 so that's 5 plus if Jessica and Kade and Bella come over then we will need 3 more so that's 8 but Bella can't color (she's 4 months old) because she is a baby so we only need 7. Mom I will get out 7 markers." Wow! He's 4 :)

Below Riley is eating a peach so he can get the seed out.
"This way I can grow a peach tree" He says.

Riley woke up...

with a fascination for monkeys. I mean Gorillas and Chimpanzees.

Riley

He came down from his room and decided to tell me all he knew about the animals. He was certain that chimpanzees were 6 feet taller than gorillas. So we did a little research :)

Our findings below.

Mr. Gorilla
Gorillareal

The gorilla is the largest primate, weighing as much as 275 kg (600 lb).

Mr. Chimp
Chimpanzee-22

SIZE: Standing approximately 4 feet high, males weigh between 90 and 120 pounds, while females weigh between 60 and 110 pounds.

Sundays are for...

feeling blessed.

In a recent blessing I received I was told "...that your mind may have peace and quiet so that you can see clearly."

Wow. I needed this blessing and I needed to hear these words.

My mind has been so full lately. So full of worries, and impatience. So full of fear and big decisions to make. So full of others advice and opinions.  But not just full of unfavorable things. The fullness has included new ideas and dreams. Plans and creativity. How to serve more and become a better person. How to create a happier more peaceful home. It's just so full!

So to receive this blessing and to know that it is a blessing from God, brought much peace and comfort.

Loving Sundays...

Meet Strider {and a giveaway}

DSCN1964

Ask Riley about Strider...

...and he will tell you a story about this really cool kid who created his own bike, and put his name on it.

Is this truth?  Well, there is a bike.  And it is really cool.  The rest is just Riley and his crazy imagination...
I think : )

Strider is a "running" bike created to teach kids how to ride a bike, no training wheels involved.

DSCN1916

Strider came to our house (not the kid but the bike), from the oh so kind people at Strider Bike Company!

DSCN1906

With his helmet already on and wearing a smile his face could barely contain, Riley tore open the box as fast as he could.

DSCN1928 DSCN1932

Inside were just three pieces, and even a tool to put it together!

DSCN1938

They said assembly was simple enough even for me.
And it was!
And I did!

DSCN1943

Right there on the front lawn.
it was maybe five minutes from box time to ride time.  Riley hopped on and looked at me with a "what now" look on his face.

DSCN1949

I gave him some basic instructions, like walk, then run, then lift your feet and ride.  And in less than half a day this kid left behind his old training wheel bike and was a balance bike pro.
All he wants to do is ride the thing.

DSCN1954 DSCN1955

SO...
What is a Strider?
It's a
bike with no pedals.

DSCN1951

What is Riley?

DSCN1962

A 4yr old with no patience.

Put them together and what do you get?

Surprisingly, you get a kid bursting with pride because he taught himself how to ride a bike!  ...in Just one day!

Original Video - More videos at TinyPic

Seriously!
And not just the Strider bike, but the old fashioned pedal sorta bike too.
Although he prefers Strider because "It's more fun!".

I watched his balance improve immediately.  And because his feet weren't on pedals, he wasn't afraid of anything.  He had complete control.  If he wanted to walk or keep his feet on the ground then he did.  If he felt comfortable lifting his feet and flying down the sidewalk then he did.

Riley had a two-wheel, training wheel style bike but we gave it to a charity yard sale because the tires were always flat when he wanted to ride it, and the training wheels were wobbly and slow.
Strider is light and fast, has no-pop tires, comes in tons of colors, and has some fun extras if you choose, like a brake assembly so Strider pros' can go faster and stop quicker, leaving those cool skid marks!

Allbikes

I am so so so happy we crossed paths with Strider and their super cool bikes.
I'm sure Norah and Jack will be Strider kids too.
If you have kids ages 1 to 5
I say it's the only way.

One more super cool thing...

Emblemwhite

After teaming up with Strider Company, we are happy to be able to give one away to a lucky Luvs and Life reader.  Fun Fun!
So all you have to do is check out the Strider Sports site and tell me what bike you would choose for your little one.  And just for fun include any accessories you'd throw in.
Then say hi and leave that info in comments below.

Winner will be chosen September 30th at midnight.

Oh and for an extra entry
feel free to mention it with links back to here on Twitter or Facebook.
Good Luck!

xoxo Brandy
and Strider

p.s Any complaints or negatives that come with the bike?
If you want honesty, just maybe a few.

~Does not come with break, you have to buy it separate.
~Does not come with quick release seat option, so you have to use the tool to change seat height (but you can purchase it from the site).
~Because Riley and Norah are both between the ages of 1-5 they both want to ride it and they fight for turns. If you have more than one little. I recommend buying one for each kid.

In The Fish Bowl

Have I mentioned to you before that I LOVE Soule Mama? If not, I DO, I DO, I DO :) So I was stopping by her blog to take in a bit of inspiration and entered this giveaway for a 6 week e-course called in the fish bowl : life as an artists online. I so want to win it! Below was my entry/answer to her question. Share a creative dream you have.

and I did.

My entry below :)

Red brick

Yay for today! I LOVED reading through others dreams that are posted. One of my BIG dreams would be to buy an old but beautiful little home in the Salt Lake Valley. A two story red brick with a garden and barn out back. I would turn it in to a Creative Living Studio for women. I envision a place full of color and antique lovely pieces. Full of crafting and creating. Full of good foods and friendships. Each room in the house would be used for different types of creating. The family room would be for knitting and crochet. The kitchen and dining for cooking classes and eating yummy foods. The bedrooms could be rented out to friendly gal groups for fun sleepovers and nights away from the kids. The basement would be the sewing studio, the barn for everything else and maybe the main entry could be a gallery/gift shop to showcase, sell and support all the local creators. Oh I am getting carried away in this aren't I. For now I will just keep loving the place of life that I'm in with my babies small and at home. Oh but the six week e-course would for sure be a cherry on top.

xoxo Brandy

Nie Nie

Stephanie August 09

My first blog daily read outside my own family and friends was Happy Little Life.
See a little about her on The LOVELY List HERE or go directly to her happy/lovely blog HERE.

My second read other than fam and friends was Nie Nie. I actually found her through a post on Kellys blog. I fell in love. I read and read and devoured her archives. She was an incredible mommy example that I wanted to follow and learn from and be like and do like. She was creative and fun and beautiful.

Then she got in to a plane crash. It was terrible and sad and affected her family and her self in ways unimaginable. It very much affected the blog world too. People from all over prayed and prayed. We raised money and held charity events. We looked to her sister C-Jane for updates and answers. But most of all we hoped for Stephanie to gain strength both in her body and spirit.  We hoped she would want to come back and share her story with us. To blog again so we could feel her wonderful spirit through the pages of Nie Nie.  Then Stephanie came out of her coma to a whole new world of life with burns and new disabilities. We as bloggers waited patiently and still loved her unconditionally. I mean she still was/is Stephanie right...?

Well I think the answer to that is YES. Nie Nie is back and sharing all her new LOVELINESS with the online world. She hiked the Y on the one year anniversary from the plane crash. And yesterday she even shared her cute kids back to school feast. So adorable.

Nie Nie I just want to tell you I love love love your plates. I am coveting them a bit :)

And friends and family if you don't already read her blog check it out today, I promise it's oh so so worth it.

xoxo Brandy

p.s Below is a comment I found on C-Janes blog. (Nie Nie's sister). Thought it was super sweet and I just had to share it.

Reply by Suzanne author of Camarena Circus

My 11 year old son has followed the story of your family for a year with me now.  He was incredibly disturbed when Nie's children didn't recognize her.  He didn't really understand why.  When Nie posted her picture, I debated whether or not to show him.  I've never kept things from him, but still, I debated.  I told him she had posted a current picture and he was a little reluctant and had a few questions.  The response was not at all what I expected. (I never give my boy enough credit!!) He gasped and said, "Oh Mom!  Her hair is the same!  Oh, and look at her eyes!"  He zeroed in on her sameness.  Then with a smile, he said, "She's back!"So, welcome back to all of you!  What a blessing each and every one of you are.  To the lady who said it before, I'll say it again:  "God is good!"

Another day

Yesterday was a tough day full of rushing, running, skipping meals, dr. appointments, screaming kids, arguments and so much more. Yesterday was a really really tough day. But now we are here so lucky to have another day. A day that we are choosing to make better. So far we have spent it sleeping in, playing blocks and fighting bad guys. But the funnest so far is messing around with the photo booth on the Mac. We have WAY too much fun with this thing.

Happy 2

IMG_8843

Two years ago I brought home my sweet, precious baby girl. She slept through the night before I could blink. She crawled and then wobbled and then walked ever so fast. She talked even earlier than Riley did. This girl can talk! She is two today. So young but for a mommy it's just so old. My heart hurts a little that my baby girl is a toddler now. That I won't get her babyhood back : ( But I am HAPPY too! Happy because I love to see her learning and loving and becoming her own little self. I love that she is such a little independent. I love that she leads her own way. I only hope for good to come for her and her life ahead. Norah my baby girly~ I love you so so much! Happy Birthday!

I try to read The Book Of Mormon daily. Do I always? Nope. But I sure as heck try :) I came across this beautiful scripture today and just wanted to share.

THE BOOK OF ETHER
CHAPTER 12

27~ And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

If you have problems in your life

01-14-07 009

picture from NIE NIE

...If you have problems in your life, don't assume there is something wrong with you. Struggling with those problems is at the very core of life's purpose. As we draw close to God, He will show us our weaknesses and through them make us wiser, stronger. If you're seeing more of your weaknesses, that just might mean you're moving nearer to God, not farther away.

Life Long Learning

P1010178.JPG

When Riley popped in to my world about 4 years ago, I often pondered homeschooling. It seemed I would think deeply on the topic for months at a time and then the thoughts would find a place in the back yard of my brain hiding away for a while. It did this on and off tell about six months ago when it came back full force and for good. I can not get the darn thoughts to go away. So instead of pushing at them and hiding them or covering them up. I let them dance around in my head. I followed the voice that shared these opinions in my thoughts and heart. I researched high and low the topics of homeschooling, unschooling, lifelearning and the list goes on and on. There were nights when I did not sleep because I wanted to find more about all the alternative learning styles. I decided at least for the time, that with my family and hubbies support, that I will jump in head first and give teaching my children at home a shot.

So here I am now. Sitting in bed, not able to sleep. I'm reading over here and come across this. But this part here is the part that makes my heart full, it brought tears to my eyes (really it did). These are the words that make me feel like I am capable. Like I can teach my children as any other teacher might, but just maybe - even better.

Words for me and you

"Think good thoughts. Wish and dream big...they might just become, so choose the good ones!" ~anonymous

I guess it just hit me one day that I was not dreaming and thinking and wishing like I use to. I was feeling very empty. So I changed it. Now I tell myself there is nothing too small or too big to dream about. Dreaming and wishing makes me cheerful and giddy, so if that's all I ever get from it... Well then I'll take it.

Great Day

Thank you all muchly, for kind words and Happy Birthdays. The big 25 was great. It included sleeping in, working on The LOVELY List, going to Pikes Market, eating by Puget Sound, lots of walking, sightseeing, looking at crafts and lovelies. My fave though was when Daddy and Riley sang Happy Birthday to me over the phone. Miss my boys and Norah too. Will post pictures soon.
